AI-generated subtitles
Our subtitles are generated with AI. It is a fast-moving technology and it is not perfect, so there are limits worth knowing about before you rely on the output.
- Errors and unusual output
- AI-generated text can contain mistakes, from minor grammatical errors to significant misinterpretations. Translations of slang, idiom and culturally specific references can be wrong. Words can be mistranscribed, particularly with unclear audio, strong accents or rapid speech. On rare occasions the output can be irrelevant or nonsensical.
- Limits of context
- Understanding of context is improving but still limited. Humour, sarcasm, irony and emotional undertone are the things most often missed, which can make a subtitle misleading.
- Copyrighted text
- The output may occasionally include excerpts of third-party copyrighted text, such as lyrics or quotes. Ensuring that the subtitles you use comply with copyright law is your responsibility, and permission from the rights holder may be needed before public or commercial use.
- Human review
- Human oversight remains the way to be sure of the result, particularly where precision matters. The editor is there for exactly that, and we offer human review and editing as a service.
- No warranty
- AI-generated subtitles are provided as they are, without warranty of accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose. We do not guarantee they will be free of errors or meet your specific needs.
