Working With SRT Files on Subtitling.net

Learn how to download, edit, upload, and troubleshoot SRT files in your subtitle workflow.

What you can do with your SRT file

When you generate subtitles on Subtitling.net, you receive an SRT file. You can:

  • download it as a standalone subtitle file
  • edit it in the built-in editor
  • upload your own SRT if you already made changes elsewhere
  • use it to create a video with burned-in subtitles

Edit your SRT file

If you want to change subtitle text, timing, or line breaks, use the built-in editor in your workflow.

For the full editing process, see Edit Subtitles in Your Account.

Upload your own SRT

If you already have an SRT file, you can upload it together with your video and use it to create a video with burned-in subtitles.

This is useful when you edited the file elsewhere or received it from another workflow.

See Burning Subtitles Into Video.

Fix common SRT issues

Strange characters in your file

If your subtitle file contains unreadable or incorrect characters, it may be saved with the wrong encoding.

Try this:

  1. Open the file in a plain-text editor
  2. Save it again as UTF-8
  3. Re-upload the file

Need the format explained?
